Flamingos head coach Akeem Busari has reacted to his team's 2-1 victory over Mexico in the Round of 16 of the ongoing 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, DAILY POST reports.

Nigeria overcame early pressure from Miguel Gamero's side before securing victory in Thursday's encounter.

Oluebube Umejiaku opened the scoring for the Flamingos with a superb strike five minutes before half-time.

Mary Dunstan doubled Nigeria's advantage in the 71st minute, putting the team in a comfortable position before Emily Delgado pulled one back for Mexico deep into stoppage time.

Reacting to the victory, Busari admitted that Mexico posed a difficult challenge but insisted that his team remained competitive under pressure.

He noted that knockout-stage matches at major tournaments often come with increased tactical demands and intensity, particularly for young players dealing with the anxiety of elimination.

โ€œWhen you come into this kind of competition, and you get to the knockout stages, it's more tactical and there's a lot of intensity involved because they're young and anxiety comes because it's the knockout stage. Today was a tough game, but we're no pushovers,โ€ Busari told FIFA.
