Nigerian actor Ray Adeka has slammed supporters of President Bola Tinubu for defending his economic reforms whenever Nigerians complain about hardship, recalling that the president opposed fuel subsidy removal during the 2012 Occupy Nigeria protests.
In a video shared online, Adeka said government supporters are quick to list the administration’s reforms whenever its handling of the economy is criticised, instead of addressing the suffering of Nigerians.
He questioned why fuel subsidy removal, the expansion of the tax bracket and the floating of the naira were being celebrated as major achievements.
Recalling Tinubu’s opposition to subsidy removal under former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012, Adeka said: “The same fuel subsidy that Jonathan tried to remove, that Tinubu was blatantly against its removal, that’s what he wants us to celebrate.”
The actor also criticised the expansion of the tax bracket, arguing that it would bring more poor Nigerians into the tax net.
He further questioned the floating of the naira, sarcastically describing the three policies as some of the administration’s supposedly brilliant reforms.
Adeka said: “So anytime you attack this government and you talk about the Tinubu administration and how people are suffering, the people who support his government are quick to talk about the reforms. It’s always grammar.”
